Time/causality may be running backwards and idea-based experiences may be causing themselves to be manifested through the human mind.
I was laying in bed meditating, and decided to play a particular song on my iPhone. I realized, in some sense, the idea of the song would be the cause for the experience of the song. The idea of the song itself was born from a previous experience of the song (and liking it), so in this way, the information experience of the song was the cause of its own future creation.
Since it seems impossible to determine which way causality actually unfolds, it occurred to me that the present experience of the song may have been actually reaching back in time to create the causes for its own current existence.
To the extent that a thought is the primary causal agent for an experience, one could say that the experience itself is inseparable from the thought and is in some way a sentient causal agent.
This thought world can be seen as sentient agents that use the human mind to manifest themselves as experiences.
Under this view, "I" am not writing the above, it is the idea itself that is manifesting itself. How widely this idea manifests itself and is experienced will be based on the virility within other human minds OR the natural occurrence of this idea as other people's insights.
The Matrix could be seen as being slave to these sentient thought agents that consume the human mind to compete with each other. Agents such as "Democrat" and "Republican" wage wars with minds as their slave brain resources.
Agents such as "The Catholic Church" recognize the deeply destructive nature of contemplative practice to the beliefs that reenforce their own existence.

It's true that we live inside of a complex and chaotic web of cause and effect, so complex that we can't adequately trace the causes of things -- which provides us with a temptation to assign cause to things just to satisfy our intellectual need to "know.". I think what we really need to do is recognize the vastness of the chaos and complexity we live in, and that "knowing" is most often just a comforting fiction.
JMHO, FWIW.

Sounds a lot like Richard Dawkins' idea of "memes" which has been developed by Susan Blackmore, herself a meditator:

(BTW A little harsh on the Catholic Church though - they have tonnes of great contemplatives! Not all of them have been treated with the respect they deserve - Miguel de Molinos, the founder of Quietism is an example I have found recently - but there is more mysticism and meditation in Catholicism than most strands of Protestantism. At least so says this ex-Protestant.)
