Is there no place for samatha in this version of Buddhism? I've very recently come to Buddhism and my practice has centered around jhana attainment. I've heard from people I should check out this website but I'm confused, is it basically just noting? What does that even do 0.o

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place I'm a bit confused as to this site's layout.

Hey,

I was in the same boat as you when I came to this website. I was doing concentration practice for years trying to attain jhana and it was soooooo close but no absorption! When I started the noting practice I wasn't too sure about it, but I am impressed by how well it works when you seriously do it. One thing to keep in mind is that the noting practice and the progress of insight seems to be less work if you have years of samtha under your belt already. It's like you're a weight lifter who's learning to sprint. You weren't training for it, but everything you've done really helps and got you ready for this.
