Hi all!
I was wondering if any of you yogis have practice or have practiced Transcendental meditation (TM)?
I have not seen it mentioned here and found only one reference in the search. I believed it was one of the most commonly spread meditation techniques.
I learned it in my twenties and practiced for two years (as I remember it).
I find TM quite fascinating because of the difference in experience it gives during meditation, even if it is a very simple mantra technique.
Lately I have found that it is also a very effortless way into concentration states and further mindfulness of breathing.
And TM itself is a relief in difficult times, so I think I will alternate with it sometimes.
I am not a great fan of the organization, but that is a different story.
Curious to know what you think!

Hi PEJN.
I haven't done TM, but most of my practice has been yogic/Hindu Tantric in nature, some of it mantra-based. I added Kenneth's noting technique to what I was already doing and found they worked great together. The trick was knowing what tool to use at what time. There was no one pattern, but sitting I often found noting was very effective as the first part of a given meditation, then I would switch.
I don't know for sure, but almost everyone else here has deep Buddhist roots (which makes sense). Very few from the Hindu side of things.
Yours,
Mark

Might want to talk a look over at dharma overground, I remember some talk about TM, but not much. Without being some kind of insider or practitioner I don't have much to say.
Someone may find these notes helpful that I started on a TM book which I found quite intriguing, but I was put off by the costs, the special mantra supposedly given only from a certified teacher.

Please excuse mistypes/spellings.
