Makyo while noting? was created by sventhepsychonaut
Hi all,

it´s been almost 2 months since I meditated the last time and one of my new year´s resolution is to meditate more regularly (again).
I´m quite new to noting (4 sits or so) but have some experiences with concentration meditation.
So I did 20 min of noting (doubles), jumping right into it. I know that concentration and investigation are intertwined but today I got hallucinations while noting which I didn´t expect.
Phenomenon was that my visual field faded into black and back to normal which is the standard effect when I do concentration. Effect started appr. after 5 min of sitting.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks
Sven

Hi Sven,

Note the hallucinatory phenomena as "seeing" or some other label and keep noting whatevever else takes centre stage in the experience of "Sven". That's what I'd do. Lot's a weird stuff can arise as you dis-embed from phenomena. It doesn't seem to have much significance apart from being "more phenomena" to see and let go of. Just dis-identify with it if stream entry is your goal. Let it all come up and note it as it does and move on. Don't get sidetracked into analysing what it is supposed to mean because I have no idea. It probably means progress. :)

As Kenneth Folk would say: It is just more grist for the mill.

Nicely put! Who knows what all this means? I certainly don't. But it's abundantly clear that the analysis of mental content is not essential to waking up. The only thing essential to waking up is keeping the attention in the body and mind as continuously as possible. There are dozens of techniques for doing this, so stock your yogi toolbox well, choose a technique that appeals to you, put your head down and meditate! The rest is automatic.

Every moment you spend making love to ideas is a moment you could have been noting.

"Are you using a Kasina?"

No.
My concentration sits were just concentration without any object (as far as I can tell).
I´d say "concentration on concentration".
At that session I just noted doublettes, not explicitly trying to concentrate.
