Try this sometime. Take a song, especially a really heart-rending trendy ballad (that perhaps you can't STAND to hear one more time). It's even better if it's the kind of song you usually dislike, or an old one that will trigger lots of memories from back in the day. Put the headphones on and listen to it good and loud. Be with the reactions it triggers.

Example. There's a very popular tune on rotation in Brazil (at least) by a young woman named Adele, called "Someone Like You". I never listen to the radio at home, but every single time I get in a taxi the song is on the radio, to the point where I've got half of it memorized.

Tonight I stumbled on a post about it on a blog, and sat down and listened. It's the usual breakup/lovelorn heart kind of thing. It's pretty funny the memories it triggers, the body responses it triggers. Tension in the chest, fleeting memories of people I was once close to and times when I felt heartbroken. A brief imagining of running into someone from long ago in an unexpected way.

Very funny.
